Experience in python programming including topics in data visualization, probability, summary statistics, Numpy, Pandas, data cleaning and narrative analytics. Completed various projects developing, deploying and evaluating machine learning models including naive bayes, linear regression, KNN, SVM, random forests and gradient boosting. Check out my work.

Work

Performed sentiment analysis using tf-idf to predict negative vs. positive reviews. Developed and tuned a variety of classification models resulting in >85% accuracy.
Sentiment Analysis of Hotel Reviews

Data exploration and analysis to identify correlations between a patient’s demographics, level of care and the likelihood of being readmitted.
Readmittance Rate of Diabetes Patients

Using raw audio data, extracted important features to use in supervised and deep learning models. Built out a MLP and LSTM neural networks using Keras that accurately predicted classes at 93%.
Identifying Heart Abnormalities

Performed cluster analysis on proteomic data of breast cancer patients in an attempt to separate individuals into sub-groups to be used for more targeted and individualized treatments.

About

Hello, my name is Zach Young, and I am a current student of Thinkful’s data science program. When I first learned about the field of data science I realized it complemented my skillset perfectly. I always excelled at math growing up, but more than anything I have always had a deep drive to study and solve complex issues. This led me to pursuing a degree in integrative biology as well as minoring in economics. After over four years of experience in the alternative energy field, both as a manager and a technician, I decided the time was right for a career change. I discovered Thinkful’s data science program where I have had the opportunity to build challenging projects and learn cutting-edge technologies through one-on-one mentorship and I jumped at the opportunity. I’m looking for a position that will allow me to use my new found skills in data visualization, data analysis, and machine learning. Eventually, I’d like to be in a position where I can analyze and predict the behavior of complex biological systems, but for now I’m excited to enter into this industry with my new skills and get to work right away!
